James Thurstan Waterworth founded Thurstan to create interiors that are eclectic, characterful, and grounded in architectural context. The studio has developed a strong reputation in the hospitality sector, with projects ranging from boutique hotels to destination-led concepts across the UK, Europe, and North America. This work is complemented by a selection of private residential commissions, all approached with the same commitment to integrity and detail.

As former European Design Director at Soho House, James led projects in Istanbul, Miami, Barcelona, and London, always with an emphasis on comfort, functionality, and a respect for each building’s history. Current hospitality projects include a working ranch resort in Wyoming, a family members club in New York, new openings for the Zetter Townhouse group, collaborations in Portugal with Claus Sendlinger, and a number of boutique hotels throughout the UK and Europe.
